Got Friends?

NKJV Proverbs 12:26

26 The righteous should choose his friends carefully,

For the way of the wicked leads them astray.

Our environment plays a big role in our lives. What we are around begins to form who we are. We have developed habits because we learned them growing up through our parents and those that we choose to be with.

One of the hardest things to do is to select the right friends. Who we choose to hang around with will determine who we become. The bible says out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks (Matthew 12:34). What we fill ourselves with will eventually come out.

We have to choose to separate from those “friends” that are not encouraging us and sharpening us in the Lord (Proverbs 27:17). The bible clearly tells us that we can’t hang around just anyone but we need to be selective in who we choose to build relationships with. If we hang around the wrong people we will do the wrong things (1 Corinthians 15:33; 2 Corinthians 6:14).

We have to choose to be friends with those who will:

1 – Tell us the truth and not just the things that we want to hear.

2 – Encourage us in our relationship with Jesus

3 – Sharpen us in the things of God

Be careful who you choose as your friend because we will live in a time where people want to just believe whatever and be with whoever but the Bible doesn’t teach that. Many people may not like that but the Bible is very clear. Be careful who you choose as your friend even if it goes against what everyone else is doing. We have to be obedient to God’s word first. Start building right relationships today.
