Knowing Isn’t Enough

“Therefore, to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin.” (James 4:17)

It isn’t enough just to know what it is that we need to do. Everyone knows what is right or wrong. We have to decide whether we are going to do what is right or do what is wrong. We get enticed by what is wrong. As humans we are curious and that started way back in Adam and Eve. Curiosity is what trapped Adam and Eve.

Many times when we do good we don’t see the results that we expect and we begin to think that it is not worth doing good. We get discouraged because we don’t get gratification right away. We are living in a world where things are getting faster and more convenient. When things go slow and are inconvenient to us we tend to back off.

We have to realize that in the Lord we will face many inconvenient moments. Obstacles, trials and tribulations will come our way because the enemy—Satan—will try to feed our curiosity and entice us to do wrong.

The only way that we can fight against Satan and His devices is by knowing the good and then doing the good. It may not always feel good. Vegetables are good for you and we need to eat our vegetables but many times we would rather have other things that just taste better. Like mama always says, “Better eat your greens!”

That’s why the Apostle Paul had to tell the Galatians in 6:9, “And let us not grow weary in doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.” We may not get instant gratification in the Lord but you better believe that what God has for us is so much greater than we can even imagine (Ephesians 3:20). What ever we are going through doesn’t even compare to what God has for us (Romans 8:18).

Keep on doing what is good and don’t give up because God will bless you and His favor will be upon you. “For we walk by faith, not by sight.” (2 Corinthians 5:7)
