Therefore, from now on, we regard no one according to the flesh. Even though we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet now we know Him thus no longer. (2 Corinthians 5:16 NKJV)
We didn't have the opportunity to see Jesus with our physical eyes. The opportunity that we have to see Jesus now is through the Spirit of God who dwells in us and by the word of God. The apostle here is explaining that he didn't see anyone according to the natural but according to the spirit.
The truth is revealed when we begin to see by the spirit and not the flesh. We can see who Jesus is and we can experience Him in our lives. This is accomplished through the Holy Spirit and the word of God.
We should see ourselves according to the Spirit and the word of God. When we look at ourselves through the flesh we see our limitations. When we look at ourselves through the Spirit and the word of God we see that through Jesus Christ we can do all things.
We should see others according to the Spirit and the word of God. Instead of seeing the negative in people we can see their potential in the Lord. We can see the positive in every person.
Can you imagine what the results would be if we would begin to see according the Spirit and the word of God instead of according to the flesh? Once we give our lives to Jesus we can begin to see the spiritual things by the Spirit. It is up to us to continue to see according to the Spirit and the word of God.
