“And after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice.” 1 Kings 19:12
Many times we look for God to speak to us in a spectacular way. Those who have grown up in a Pentecostal background, who have seen God manifest in ways that most would call “crazy,” tend to look for loud and spectacular things. When we have this kind of mindset we can’t listen to God when He is speaking to us in a still small voice.
We have to be open to anything and anyone that God may use to speak into our lives. God is always speaking but so many times we miss it because He doesn’t speak to us the way that we expect. All we need to do is open our ears and pray that the Holy Spirit will help us to hear what He has to say (Revelation 3:22).
In order for us to hear the still small voice we will have to get rid of all distractions in our lives. In the world we are living in today it is hard to even find time to concentrate on God for even 10-15 minutes. You can be praying and about 5 minutes in your prayer thoughts already come into our minds that say: “I need to do this or that,” “Tomorrow this and this,” “What do I have to do next.” There are so many distractions but we need to learn to discipline ourselves to be able to be still and know that He is God (Psalm 46:10)
Be challenged today to not just look for God to speak to you in a spectacular way but truly listen to God in what ever way He may speak to you. Remove all distractions and paradigms that keep you from listening to what God truly has to say to you.
